About the Honda HR-V e:HEV (2024)

Independent spec and rating reference. No offers, no sales.

The third HR-V generation has been on the market since 2022 and is available in Europe only as an e:HEV full hybrid, the same drivetrain as the Civic e:HEV but tuned for the smaller HR-V. The 1.5 petrol four-cylinder works mostly as a generator that feeds the battery and the electric motor; only at higher speed does the petrol engine couple mechanically to the wheels. System power 131 hp, WLTP consumption 5.4 l/100km (manufacturer figure).

In practice

WLTP is 5.4 l/100km (manufacturer figure, not measured by us). In mixed traffic owners report a year average of around 6.0 l/100km (owner forums, n approx 16, not measured by us); the difference between WLTP and practice is usually smaller on this type of hybrid than on a plug-in. The boot measures 319 l, modest for a SUV in this class because the battery takes up space. The "Magic Seats" rear bench folds up vertically for tall cargo. The indicative list price rose from about 35,490 euro (reference date early 2024) to 36,990 euro now, a starting price, not an offer and not a forecast.

Points to note

Honda does not release the HR-V e:HEV in Europe to tow a trailer; the braked towing weight is therefore set at 0 kg (check this against the official figure if towing is a requirement). Under hard acceleration the drivetrain lets the engine revs rise independently of speed, a characteristic that recurs in owner reports as a point to get used to. The boot of 319 l is modest for a compact SUV.
