Category scores

These are our own numbers, not the manufacturer’s stars. The scale runs from 0 to 100, higher is better, and every figure carries a source with a reference date. Which category weighs more for you is something you know better than we do. How these scores work.

Fast charging at a public charger (10→80%)

Fast charging on the road (DC = the rapid charger you find at motorway stops, not home charging): indicative time from 10 to 80 percent, calculated from the specs — not measured by us. Actual time varies with charger, temperature and battery level at the start. The 10→80% window is the standard benchmark because the final stretch (80→100%) deliberately charges slower to protect the battery.
Charging situation10→80% (minutes)
At the car's own maximum charging rate (400 kW) ~ 18
At a 150 kW charger ~ 49
At a 50 kW charger ~ 147
How is this calculated? We assume around 70% of the battery sits in the 10→80% window and an average power around 62% of peak (the curve tapers towards the end). At a fixed charger the power is capped to that charger. An estimate, not a manufacturer figure.

Charging at home uses AC power and is slower: a home wallbox typically delivers 7.4 to 11 kW. That is separate from the fast-charge times shown above.

Frequently asked

What does the BMW iX3 cost roughly?

Indicative starting price € 70,900 (reference date 2026-05-20). Not an offer.

What is the WLTP range of the BMW iX3?

805 km WLTP (manufacturer figure). Owners typically report less in everyday driving, especially in cold weather. See the reviews below.

How much can the BMW iX3 tow?

2000 kg braked (with trailer brakes) — the figure that applies when your trailer (such as a caravan) has its own brakes. Manufacturer figure; the exact, binding limit for a specific car is on its registration document.

How long does fast-charging the BMW iX3 take (10→80%)?

Roughly 18 minutes on a 400 kW charger (10→80%, factory calculation, indicative). Actual time depends on battery temperature and the charging curve — the car's charging speed drops as the battery fills.

How big is the battery in the BMW iX3?

108.7 kWh usable capacity (manufacturer figure). Check the warranty terms of the specific car for capacity retention.

What does the BMW iX3 use in real-world driving?

The factory WLTP figure is 15.1 kWh/100 km. Owners typically report more in mixed use, with the usual winter penalty. See the owner experiences below.

How much boot space does the BMW iX3 have?

520 litres (manufacturer figure). See the spec sheet for the full dimensions.

About the BMW iX3 (2025)

Independent spec and rating reference. No offers, no sales.

This is the second-generation iX3 and the first model on BMW's new Neue Klasse platform. The architecture is fully 800V, with new cylindrical cells from BMW's Gen6 battery technology, a single drive controller (the so-called Heart of Joy) and an iDrive interface with a panoramic display strip across the dashboard. Production runs in Debrecen, Hungary.

In practice

WLTP range for the launch 50 xDrive is around 805 km with the 108.7 kWh net battery (manufacturer figure, not measured by us). DC charging peaks around 400 kW under favourable conditions, with about 230 kW average between 10 and 80% state of charge (manufacturer figure, not measured by us). Boot 520 litres with rear seats up, expandable to about 1,750 litres folded, plus a 58 litre frunk under the bonnet. Braked towing weight 2,000 kg. The indicative starting price in Germany is 70,900 euro after a price adjustment of about 2,000 euro in early 2026, a starting price, not an offer and not a forecast.

Points to note

The Neue Klasse platform is brand-new; for the first model year long-term reliability is by definition not yet documented. The iDrive interface with the panoramic display strip is a significant departure from earlier BMW interiors; whether that works well is a matter of taste, check it on a test drive at the official dealer. European production capacity for 2026 has reportedly been largely sold out, lead times may be long.
