About the Audi A1 Sportback (GB, 2018-now)
Independent spec and rating reference. No offers, no sales.
The A1 Sportback is on the Volkswagen group's MQB-A0 platform, shared with the Polo and the Seat Ibiza. The base engine is the 30 TFSI, a 1.0 three-cylinder turbo petrol with 110 hp; above it sits the 35 TFSI, a 1.5 four-cylinder with 150 hp and cylinder deactivation. The Sportback is the only available body style; the three-door version is gone.
In practice
WLTP figure for the 30 TFSI is around 5.4 l/100km (manufacturer figure, not measured by us). In mixed use owners report 6-7 l/100km (owner forums, not measured by us); short city trips run higher. Braked towing weight is 1,000 kg, limited but enough for a light trailer. The indicative starting price rose from about 27,500 euro (reference date early 2024) to 29,900 euro now, a starting price, not an offer and not a forecast.
Points to note
The technical kinship with the Polo is large; the price difference sits mainly in finish, brand position and standard equipment, not in the drivetrain. Cylinder deactivation on the 35 TFSI works imperceptibly but the real consumption is above the WLTP figure. The infotainment uses the MMI touch from the older Audi generation; check on a test drive at the official dealer how it feels.
