Who they are

A short write-up on each car, one paragraph apiece. We describe them on their own terms rather than picking a winner.

Profile · F 1.2 Turbo (facelift 2023)

Opel Corsa

B-segment hatchback on the CMP/e-CMP platform, shared with the Peugeot 208. The 1.2 Turbo petrol with 100 hp is the common version. WLTP consumption around 5.6 l/100km (manufacturer figure, indicative); owners report more like 6-6.5 l/100km in mixed use (public forums, not measured by us). The 309 l boot is on the cramped side for the class.

Profile · VI facelift (2024)

Volkswagen Polo

Compact five-door on the MQB-A0 platform, still in production after the 2021 facelift. Entry engine is the 1.0 TSI with 95 hp; 351 litre boot, braked towing weight 1,000 kg. WLTP consumption 5.4 l/100km (manufacturer figure, not measured by us). Indicative starting price; consult the official configurator for a current figure.
