Who they are

A short write-up on each car, one paragraph apiece. We describe them on their own terms rather than picking a winner.

Profile · AE, late-uitloop (2022 nieuwstand)

Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid

Hybrid liftback from Hyundai's AE platform, not the current Ioniq EV line. Drivetrain 1.6 GDI plus electric motor around 141 hp system; WLTP consumption around 4.5 l/100km (manufacturer figure, not measured by us). Boot 443 l, five seats. Not officially permitted to tow. Limited new stock in EU; check the official configurator or remaining inventory for the current figure.

Profile · PHEV (SG2, 2023+)

Kia Niro

Plug-in hybrid crossover. Electric WLTP range 65 km; the WLTP figure of 1.0 l/100km applies only with a full battery and short trips. With an empty battery the car drives like a regular hybrid; then count on 5-6 l/100km (owner figure, not measured by us). Braked towing weight 1,300 kg.
