Who they are

A short write-up on each car, one paragraph apiece. We describe them on their own terms rather than picking a winner.

Profile · Mk4 1.5 EcoBlue diesel (2018-2022)

Ford Focus

C-segment hatchback, fourth generation on the C2 platform. The 1.5 EcoBlue diesel with 120 hp was delivered between 2018 and around 2022; after that the diesel disappeared from the Dutch range. Reference model for spec look-up and switch orientation from an older model. WLTP consumption around 4.4 l/100km (manufacturer figure, indicative); diesel stays economical over long distance. No new price and no buy button, we are not a marketplace.

Profile · CD, derde-generatie facelift (2024)

Kia Ceed

C-segment hatchback, third generation with facelift. The common version has a 1.5 T-GDI four-cylinder with mild-hybrid support around 140 hp; WLTP consumption around 6.0 l/100km (manufacturer figure, not measured by us). Boot 395 l, five seats. Indicative from-price; check the official configurator for the current figure.
