About the Volkswagen Golf VIII (2024)

Independent spec and rating reference. No offers, no sales.

The Golf VIII has been in production since 2020 and received a facelift in 2024 with a 12.9-inch screen, illuminated sliders and a revised steering wheel. The entry engine is the 1.5 TSI with 116 hp; mild-hybrid eTSI variants sit above it. WLTP consumption is 5.5 l/100km (manufacturer figure, not measured by us). Braked towing weight 1,500 kg.

In practice

Boot 381 litres, average for the C-segment. Owners report real-world consumption that, depending on driving style, sits 0.5 to 1.5 l/100km above WLTP (public forums, not measured by us). The indicative list price rose from about 32,490 euro (reference date early 2024) to 33,990 euro now, a starting price, not an offer and not a forecast.

Points to note

The touch-based controls of the pre-facelift drew a lot of criticism; the 2024 update softened that with better software and illuminated controls but did not fully replace the physical button row. Early Golf VIII model years had software recalls; check the RDW recall status per VIN for a used car.
