About the BMW 1 Series (F40, 2024)

Independent spec and rating reference. No offers, no sales.

The F40 switched to the front-wheel-drive UKL platform that also underpins the X1 and the MINI; the rear-wheel drive of the previous generation was dropped. The 2024 facelift renewed the front and the iDrive system. The 118i uses a petrol three-cylinder with 48V mild hybrid, about 156 hp.

In practice

WLTP figure is about 6.1 l/100km (manufacturer figure, not measured by us). In mixed use owners report 6.5-7.5 l/100km (owner forums, not measured by us); short city trips are higher. The 1,500 kg braked towing weight is average for the class. The indicative list price rose from about 35,900 euro (reference date early 2024) to 37,900 euro now; this is a starting price, not an offer and not a forecast.

Points to note

The switch to front-wheel drive changes the driving character compared to older 1 Series; take a test drive at the official dealer if you consider that important. The three-cylinder is audible on cold start and at high revs. Rear space is limited for adults in the back; check this for family use.
